Creating an Eternal Family Relationship

Mormon FamilyCreating an eternal family relationship is to approach God’s life. God lives in an eternal family relationship.  Those who are saved and exalted in the highest kingdom of heaven are sealed into God’s family.

In eternal family relationships, families can be together forever

No comfort can be greater than this: Through Jesus Christ we will live again. (1) He broke the bonds of death so we can be resurrected—our spirits and bodies eternally united–and become glorious beings like Jesus and Heavenly Father. Moreover, the loving relationships that we form in this life can also be made eternal—eternal marriages and eternal families. Only the priesthood—the power and authority of God—can seal marriages and families together forever through a sacred ordinance, and the place where that sacred ordinance is performed are holy temples.

“The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally.”

An eternal family relationship begins with God’s first commandment to husbands and wives

Elder Bruce R. McConkie, an apostle of God said, “Adam and Eve set a proper and righteous pattern for all of their descendants. As husband and wife, married by God himself while yet in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2:22-25), they became the first family–an eternal family…Adam and Eve added children to their family….parents and children together, comprise an eternal family unit in celestial glory. The same is true of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and [all] the faithful saints [who enter into this holy order of matrimony].” (2)

After God created Adam and Eve and united them in eternal marriage, He gave them a commandment, which He has renewed with every married couple thereafter and which he has never rescinded: “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth….” (3) To have children is God’s first commandment to husbands and wives.

“The first commandment that God gave to Adam and Eve pertained to their potential for parenthood as husband and wife. We declare that God’s commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force.”
