Modern technology, which was supposed to simplify life, has instead made us busier than ever and created more and more ways for us to put distance between ourselves and our families. We get so busy we can easily forget to spend quality time with our families. There is more to spending time than watching a movie together. We need to communicate so our children know our values and, for that matter, us.
This brief story by Robert D. Hales reminds us to be there–really be there–for our children. Childhood is short and we don’t have much time to make an influence on their lives before the world gets in there and starts to push their own values. We need to, as Elder Hales says, connect with our children and to know their hearts. We have to find teaching moments and use them lovingly and wisely.
